20111119_kktv_news_11 ProCare Interviewed by KKTV to Discuss Choosing the Right Pet Care Provider

Colorado Springs, November 19, 2011

Alyssa Chin from KKTV News 11 invited us into the studio to discuss how pet owners can provide care for their pets while the family is away on vacation.

If you're considering holiday travel this year, be sure to consider the care and safety of your pets.  If you choose to leave your pets at home, be sure to carefully consider and choose your pet care provider.

You need to make sure the provider you choose is bonded, insured and skilled to make your pets holiday stay as happy and healthy as possible.

Our story can be seen here.

Colorado Springs, November 16, 2011

ProCare was approached by Joe Bevins from KOAA News 5.  He was interested in shooting a story about the concerns of holiday travelers and the health of their pets.  He interviewed Jennifer and they discussed how to prepare your pets for holiday traveling.

Upcoming holiday travel may require some pet and homeowners to choose someone to sit with their pets and home while they are away.

Choosing the right service provider is important and there are many things to consider.  Some owners may consider taking their pets with them.  Be careful and understand all that is involved.

2011_safb_base_picnic 2011 12th Annual Schriever AFB Base Picnic

Schriever Air Force Base, July 15,2011

The summer season has finally begun and what better way to celebrate the warm weather than with a base-wide picnic.

Schriever Air Force Base will hold its 12th annual base picnic July 15, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the track next to the main fitness center.

The 50th Force Support Squadron has planned many activities to make this annual picnic memorable for everyone in attendance.  There will be balloon artists, face painters, inflatable bounce houses, a dunk tank, a live disc jockey, craft sales and more for all who are attending.  A complimentary barbecue lunch, giveaways, drinks and snacks will be provided.

Not only is this day about spending time with family and friends, but it is also an opportunity to celebrate Diversity Day with Team Schriever members.  Some Diversity Day activities will include dances from the Irish Celtic Step Dancers, Oluwaseyi, PanAmerican, Seven Falls and the Pacific Pride & Island Hearts performers.  USA Paralympics will also be demonstrating hand cycles during the picnic.

Based on past events, more than 3,000 Airmen, civilians, contractors and their families are expected to attend, so save the date and come join in the fun!

Keep in mind, no pets are allowed at the base picnic.

Volunteers are always appreciated.  For more information contact Stacey Ragsdale at 719-567-5779.

2011_springs_spree 2011 Springs Spree

Memorial Park, Colorado Springs, Colorado, June 18-19,2011

If it’s June, it must be time for Springs Spree!

It’s about food — hot brats on the grill, warm funnel cakes and more.  It’s about family – children squealing as they roll down the hill in a human hamster ball.  And it’s about community – thousands of spectators enjoying themselves with family and friends in a spacious city park.

Springs Spree is one of Colorado Springs’ oldest community celebrations, going on 33 years.  As many as 70,000 people go to enjoy the music, food and family fun.  Local and nationally known musicians will perform live on stages all day and into the evening — including a variety of genres such as folk, country, rock, old school, R&B, and even karaoke.

Springs Spree will have more than 10 cultural dance groups along with a handful of street performers that will fill Memorial Park for the weekend.  There will be a KID ZONE, with Universal Kempo Karate Demonstrations, Human Hamster Ball Rides, and three stages with live entertainment.  New this year is the Springs Spree Custom Motor Sports Show that will include a variety of vehicles that are sure to impress Dad! (Since Sunday is Father’s Day and all.)

2011_nmdr_freedom_run 2011 NMDR Ruff Life Freedom 5k Run/Walk

America the Beautiful Park, Colorado Springs, Colorado, June 11, 2011

Dogs and their owners packed America the Beautiful Park Saturday morning, eager for a tail-wagging good time.

Pocket-sized Pomeranians and standard poodles joined dogs of all breeds to trot alongside their owners at the Ruff Life Freedom five kilometer run and walk, a fundraiser for National Mill Dog Rescue.  After the hard work was done, confident participants stuck around to try their hand, or paw, in competitions.

“We do end up looking like our animals after a while," an announcer said, summoning owners and their dogs to compete in a look alike competition. Nine-year-old Alexis Jacques and her rat terrier and poodle mix sported matching pink tutus and went home with the grand prize of a $25 gift card.  “It feels great," Jacques said, beaming as she restrained her dog Zoey from scurrying across the field.  Beside the fact that her pooch likes to eat everything in sight, Jacques said their personalities are similar, too: They’re energetic and spunky.

Runner-up Kerri Howard and her Chihuahua Charlie Brown showcased their resemblance with matching baseball caps.  “We always wear hats because he gets sunburns, and they can get skin cancer," Howard said, pointing to her dog’s black, miniature baseball cap.  She had her hands full with the leashes of three other dogs, two of which were foster dogs from the National Mill Dog Rescue.

A trio stole the judge’s praise for the best trick contest.  Dawn Sommers’ Australian shepherd weaved in and out of her legs as she walked across the grass, her Chihuahua then darting between the shepherd’s legs.  Sommers and her companions, both rescue dogs, are self-taught in their tricks.

“I love dog training," she said.  Her Chihuahua is a therapy dog and also competes in agility competitions.  New to Colorado Springs, Sommers found out about the run and walk while in search of causes to get involved with.  “It’s amazing what rescue dogs can do," she said.
